Forging & Hardering

The blade

We always use a new material for the replicas´ blades (swords, fedrschwerts, rapiers, sabers, tusks...), because there is higher danger of hidden inner defects in the old material.

In some cases (swords, fedrschwerts, tusks), the blades are forged in advance in the smithy. This technique is demanding and time consuming, but worth performing because of it´s historical authenticity with our ancestors ways of production.

The grooves are not milled, they are ground by hand and in some kinds ofthe blades forged in advance. The purpose of the grooves is to firm the blade, similarly as an I profile in the building industry.

The blades arehardened industrially in the hardening specialized on 54SiCr6 (Spring steel) material. Thus, the best results are achieved and the quality remains under our control. The blades are hardened to the values of 51 +/- 1 HRc. Reaching these values, the steel combines anideal ratio of hardness, elasticity and toughness, which ensures long product life.

Each batchundergoes a test of hardness after the hardening. Then we subject the blades to the test of flexibility and strength.
We do this tests to minimize the risk of the replicas damage and to avoid any other our or yours problems.
